From Monday, 19 January 2026, the Tenerife Cabildo has officially introduced the first ecotax for Teide National Park. The new measure affects non-residents of Tenerife, who must now pay and book online to access two of the park’s most popular high-mountain trails during specific time slots.

The ecotax applies to:

Trail PNT 10 – Telesforo Bravo

Trail PNT 07 – Montaña Blanca to La Rambleta

The system is designed to regulate visitor numbers, protect fragile volcanic ecosystems, and ensure long-term sustainability of the park.

Why the Ecotax Has Been Introduced

According to Cabildo President Rosa Dávila, the ecotax represents a clear commitment to conservation while safeguarding free access for Tenerife residents. She described the policy as “fair and balanced”, noting that charges for residents of other Canary Islands are symbolic, while higher fees apply to mainland and international visitors.

The initiative aims to reduce overcrowding, improve safety, and align trail access with the park’s real environmental capacity.

Trail Fees and Access Times Explained

Trail PNT 10 – Telesforo Bravo

Access time: 9:00am – 5:00pm

All access must be booked through the Tenerife ON platform.

Key booking rules include:

No refunds will be given if access is denied due to failure to meet mandatory equipment requirements, which are published on the Tenerife ON website.

⚠️ At present, bookings can only be made via the website, not the mobile app.

Booking Schedule and Availability

New booking slots open every Monday at 7:00am (Canary time)

A rolling 28-day booking window is maintained

Users must be registered and verified on the platform before reserving

This system is intended to ensure equal access while preventing last-minute overcrowding.

Sustainability and Visitor Experience

Councillor for Natural Environment and Sustainability Blanca Pérez stated that funds raised through the ecotax will be reinvested into:

Environmental conservation

Improved trail safety

Enhanced visitor services

Long-term sustainable management of Teide National Park

The goal is to move towards a more responsible tourism model that protects one of Spain’s most iconic natural landmarks.

In Summary

The Teide ecotax is now in force

Non-residents must pay and book online to access key trails

Tenerife residents continue to enjoy free access

Fees vary by trail, day, and visitor profile

Reservations are strict and non-refundable in most cases

If you’re planning to hike Teide in the coming weeks, booking early and preparing properly is now more important than ever.
