New Teide Ecotax Starts Today: Who Must Pay and How to Book

From Monday, 19 January 2026, the Tenerife Cabildo has officially introduced the first ecotax for Teide National Park. The new measure affects non-residents of Tenerife, who must now pay and book online to access two of the park’s most popular high-mountain trails during specific time slots.

Why the Ecotax Has Been Introduced

According to Cabildo President Rosa Dávila, the ecotax represents a clear commitment to conservation while safeguarding free access for Tenerife residents. She described the policy as “fair and balanced”, noting that charges for residents of other Canary Islands are symbolic, while higher fees apply to mainland and international visitors.

The initiative aims to reduce overcrowding, improve safety, and align trail access with the park’s real environmental capacity.

Access time: 9:00am – 5:00pm

  • Tenerife residents: Free
  • Under 14s: Free
  • Residents of other Canary Islands: €6
  • Other visitors (non-residents): €15

Trail PNT 07 – Montaña Blanca to La Rambleta

Access time: 9:00am – 3:00pm

Weekdays

  • Tenerife residents: Free
  • Residents of other Canary Islands: €3
  • Other users: €6

Weekends & public holidays

  • Tenerife residents: Free
  • Residents of other islands: €5
  • Other visitors: €10

How to Book: Mandatory Online Reservations

All access must be booked through the Tenerife ON platform.

Key booking rules include:

  • credit or debit card is required
  • All participants’ details must be entered
  • Reservations cannot be changed or cancelled
  • Dates, times, and participants are non-modifiable
  • Refunds are only issued if:
    • The trail is closed due to weather or exceptional circumstances
    • The Teide Cable Car is out of service

No refunds will be given if access is denied due to failure to meet mandatory equipment requirements, which are published on the Tenerife ON website.
