From Monday, 19 January 2026, the Tenerife Cabildo has officially introduced the first ecotax for Teide National Park. The new measure affects non-residents of Tenerife, who must now pay and book online to access two of the park’s most popular high-mountain trails during specific time slots.

The ecotax applies to:

Trail PNT 10 – Telesforo Bravo

Trail PNT 07 – Montaña Blanca to La Rambleta

The system is designed to regulate visitor numbers, protect fragile volcanic ecosystems, and ensure long-term sustainability of the park.

Why the Ecotax Has Been Introduced

According to Cabildo President Rosa Dávila, the ecotax represents a clear commitment to conservation while safeguarding free access for Tenerife residents. She described the policy as “fair and balanced”, noting that charges for residents of other Canary Islands are symbolic, while higher fees apply to mainland and international visitors.

The initiative aims to reduce overcrowding, improve safety, and align trail access with the park’s real environmental capacity.

Trail Fees and Access Times Explained

Trail PNT 10 – Telesforo Bravo

Access time: 9:00am – 5:00pm

Tenerife residents: Free

Under 14s: Free

Residents of other Canary Islands: €6

Other visitors (non-residents): €15

Trail PNT 07 – Montaña Blanca to La Rambleta

Access time: 9:00am – 3:00pm

Weekdays

Tenerife residents: Free

Residents of other Canary Islands: €3

Other users: €6

Weekends & public holidays

Tenerife residents: Free

Residents of other islands: €5

Other visitors: €10

How to Book: Mandatory Online Reservations

All access must be booked through the Tenerife ON platform.

Key booking rules include:

A credit or debit card is required

All participants’ details must be entered

Reservations cannot be changed or cancelled

Dates, times, and participants are non-modifiable

Refunds are only issued if:

The trail is closed due to weather or exceptional circumstances

The Teide Cable Car is out of service

No refunds will be given if access is denied due to failure to meet mandatory equipment requirements, which are published on the Tenerife ON website.

⚠️ At present, bookings can only be made via the website, not the mobile app.

Booking Schedule and Availability

New booking slots open every Monday at 7:00am (Canary time)

A rolling 28-day booking window is maintained

Users must be registered and verified on the platform before reserving

This system is intended to ensure equal access while preventing last-minute overcrowding.

Sustainability and Visitor Experience

Councillor for Natural Environment and Sustainability Blanca Pérez stated that funds raised through the ecotax will be reinvested into:

Environmental conservation

Improved trail safety

Enhanced visitor services

Long-term sustainable management of Teide National Park

The goal is to move towards a more responsible tourism model that protects one of Spain’s most iconic natural landmarks.

In Summary

The Teide ecotax is now in force

Non-residents must pay and book online to access key trails

Tenerife residents continue to enjoy free access

Fees vary by trail, day, and visitor profile

Reservations are strict and non-refundable in most cases

If you’re planning to hike Teide in the coming weeks, booking early and preparing properly is now more important than ever.

A stress-free way to experience the island’s most spectacular celebration

If Tenerife had a heartbeat, it would probably sound like drums, laughter, and the collective gasp of thousands of people watching a parade explode into colour. And once a year, that heartbeat is loudest in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, home to one of the world’s most famous carnivals.

For visitors staying in Tenerife South, getting there during Carnival can feel a little intimidating. Road closures, packed buses, unclear schedules, and the tiny detail that half the island seems to be going to the same place at the same time. That’s exactly where the “From Tenerife South: Carnival Parade Santa Cruz de Tenerife” experience comes in.

This guided excursion offers a simple, organised, and surprisingly relaxed way to attend the Carnival Parade without worrying about logistics — so you can focus on the fun, not the traffic.

Why Santa Cruz Carnival Is a Big Deal (No, Really)

Santa Cruz Carnival isn’t just “a parade.” It’s considered the second most internationally recognised carnival in the world, often compared to Rio — but with a very Canarian sense of humour.

For several weeks, the city transforms into a giant open-air stage. You’ll see:

Elaborate costumes that took months (and sometimes years) to create

Dance groups (comparsas) rehearsed to perfection

Live bands, performers, jugglers, and dancers flooding the streets

A crowd that is joyful, chaotic, friendly, and unapologetically festive

The parade itself is one of the highlights of the entire Carnival calendar — a moving showcase of everything the celebration represents.

What This Experience Is — and What It Isn’t

Let’s be clear and honest (we like that around here).

This experience is:
✔️ A guided return trip from Tenerife South to Santa Cruz
✔️ A chance to watch the Carnival Parade live, right in the heart of the action
✔️ A well-organised, time-efficient way to attend without planning transport
✔️ Ideal for visitors who want the experience, not the stress

This experience is not:
❌ A seated grandstand ticket
❌ A VIP or backstage access tour
❌ A food or drink-inclusive event
❌ A costume rental or party crawl

And honestly? That’s part of its charm. You’re not separated from Carnival — you’re inside it.

What’s Included in the Tour

Here’s what you get when you book:

Pickup from Tenerife South

Pickup is available from multiple locations, including:

El Médano

Golf del Sur

Costa del Silencio

Los Cristianos

Las Américas

Callao Salvaje

Playa Paraíso

Los Gigantes

You don’t need to navigate public transport or worry about parking — the bus takes care of it.

Guide Accompanying the Group

The tour includes a guide who accompanies you to and from Santa Cruz, helping keep everything running smoothly. The guide speaks English (and other languages depending on the group).

Carnival Parade Experience

Once in Santa Cruz, you’ll head into the city to watch the parade as it passes through the streets — dancers, bands, queens, performers, and all the colour Carnival is famous for.

Return Transport

After the parade, you’ll return to Tenerife South by coach — no late-night transport puzzles, no guessing taxi availability.

Duration & Timing

Total duration: Approximately 9 hours

Exact departure times depend on availability and parade schedules

Expect a full day experience, with travel time, parade viewing, and return included

This isn’t rushed — but it also doesn’t drag on endlessly. Reviews consistently mention how smooth and efficient the day feels.

What You’ll Actually Experience on the Day

Picture this:

You arrive in Santa Cruz as the city is already buzzing. Music spills from every direction. People are dressed in costumes ranging from elegant to delightfully ridiculous. The parade route is alive with anticipation.

As the procession moves through the city:

Comparsas dance with relentless energy

Costumes shimmer in the daylight

Jugglers, performers, and musicians keep the momentum high

The crowd cheers, dances, and fully commits to the moment

You’re not watching from a screen or a distant viewpoint — you’re standing inside one of Tenerife’s most important cultural traditions.

Practical Info: What to Bring (and Wear)

This is important:

✔️ Comfortable Shoes

You’ll be standing and walking. Carnival is not the place for new shoes or fashion experiments that hurt after 20 minutes.

✔️ Light Layers

February in Santa Cruz is generally mild, but evenings can cool down slightly.

✔️ A Bit of Patience

Carnival is joyful chaos. Things are busy. Crowds are dense. That’s part of the experience.

What You Don’t Need

Fancy outfits (unless you want to wear one — totally optional)

Cash for tickets (the parade is a public event)

Stress about how to get back south

Reviews: What Past Travellers Say

The experience has received very positive reviews, especially highlighting:

⭐ Smooth pickup and transport
⭐ Clear communication from the guide
⭐ Excellent positioning near the parade route
⭐ A stress-free way to attend Carnival
⭐ “A must-see” for first-time visitors

Several reviews mention how helpful it is not having to worry about logistics, particularly during such a busy event.

Who This Tour Is Perfect For

This experience is ideal if you:

Are staying in Tenerife South

Want to experience Carnival without planning transport

Prefer structure over improvising during peak events

Are visiting Tenerife for the first time

Want a full Carnival experience without staying overnight in Santa Cruz

It’s especially good for couples, solo travellers, and small groups who want to see the parade properly, not just hear about it later.

Who Might Want to Skip It

You might want a different option if you:

Are already staying in Santa Cruz

Want seated VIP parade viewing

Are looking for a party-only experience with drinks included

Prefer complete freedom over guided schedules

Carnival has something for everyone — this tour just happens to be one of the most practical choices for visitors based in the south.

Is It Worth It?

If you’re staying in Tenerife South and Santa Cruz Carnival is on during your visit, the honest answer is: yes, it’s worth it.

Not because it’s luxurious or exclusive — but because it removes the biggest headache of Carnival: getting there and back.

You get:

One of the world’s most famous carnivals

A front-row experience in the streets

Organised transport

Zero guesswork

And sometimes, that’s exactly what you want.

Good to know

This experience is available with free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance, and you can reserve now and pay later, which makes it easy to keep your plans flexible.

Want to experience Santa Cruz Carnival without planning headaches?

If you’re staying in Costa Adeje or Tenerife South and Carnival is on during your trip, this organised excursion is one of the simplest ways to see the parade live — without worrying about transport, parking, or timing.

👉 Check availability for the Santa Cruz Carnival Parade from Tenerife South
Free cancellation · Reserve now, pay later

Prefer to go independently?
Don’t worry — on Monday, we’ll publish a step-by-step guide for visiting Santa Cruz Carnival on your own, plus a clear comparison to help you choose what suits you best.

Costa Adeje is often described with a familiar set of words: sunshine, beaches, cocktails at sunset, eternal summer. And yes, all of that is true. But there’s another layer of the experience — quieter, more real, and far more interesting — that rarely makes it into glossy travel guides.

Not better. Not worse. Just… real.

If you’re planning your first trip here, these are the 26 things nobody usually tells you — not to scare you away, but to help you arrive with the right expectations and enjoy the place for what it truly is.

1. The sun is generous, but it’s not gentle

Costa Adeje enjoys beautiful weather almost all year, but the sun here doesn’t behave like a polite European summer. It’s stronger, brighter, and faster to leave its mark. Sunscreen isn’t optional — it’s part of the daily uniform.

2. The breeze is part of the personality

People imagine tropical stillness. What they get is wind — not every day, but often enough to shape the mood. It keeps the heat comfortable, cools the evenings, and reminds you this is an island, not a postcard.

3. Distances look short. Your legs will disagree

Everything seems close on Google Maps. Then you walk it. Hills, slopes, long promenades — suddenly your “quick walk” turns into a mini workout. It’s not bad. Just honest geography.

4. The best restaurants aren’t always by the sea

Beachfront places are convenient, scenic, and sometimes great — but some of the most memorable meals are a few streets inland. Costa Adeje rewards curiosity more than location.

5. Island time is real — and it’s not laziness

Things move at a calmer pace here. Not because people don’t care, but because the culture values human rhythm over clock tyranny. Once you stop rushing, it stops feeling slow.

6. English will take you far, but Spanish takes you deeper

You’ll manage perfectly fine with English. But even a few Spanish words open doors, smiles, and warmer interactions. Locals appreciate effort more than perfection.

7. Life feels relaxed… until you need paperwork

Daily life is wonderfully easy. Administrative life? Less so. It’s not chaos — it’s simply a different system, with its own logic and tempo. Knowing this saves you frustration.

8. The beaches aren’t all golden sand

Some are volcanic black, others imported golden, some mixed. Each has its own charm. Costa Adeje isn’t a single beach experience — it’s a small collection of moods.

9. Summer isn’t the busiest season

Winter is.
When northern Europe freezes, Costa Adeje fills up. The island rhythm flips the usual tourist calendar upside down.

10. It’s touristy — and that’s not a crime

Yes, Costa Adeje is popular. And that popularity is what keeps the area clean, safe, and full of services. Tourism here isn’t invasive — it’s the ecosystem.

11. The nightlife is calmer than you expect

This isn’t Ibiza. It’s not meant to be. Evenings in Costa Adeje usually lean toward conversation, seaside walks, wine, and early mornings — a lifestyle many discover they actually prefer.
That said, nearby areas like Las Américas and Veronicas have a very different energy: louder, later, and more party-focused. Fun for some, but also places where being a bit more alert and street-smart makes sense — just like in any busy nightlife zone anywhere in Europe.

12. The island feels small — in the best way

You’ll start recognizing faces at cafés, markets, and walking routes. Not because it’s tiny, but because life naturally loops in friendly circles.

13. Locals aren’t cold — they’re respectful

People here don’t invade your space with fake enthusiasm. They offer something better: genuine politeness, calm presence, and quiet kindness.

14. “Cheap paradise” is a myth

You can live affordably — or expensively. Costa Adeje isn’t budget by default; it’s flexible. Your lifestyle choices decide the cost, not the island.

15. Walking becomes part of your identity

You’ll walk more than you planned. Not because you must, but because you want to. The promenade, the sunsets, the mild evenings — movement becomes pleasure.

16. The landscape humbles you

Mountains, ocean, cliffs — Tenerife constantly reminds you that nature leads here. It creates a calm respect that changes how you see your own pace.

17. Service isn’t rushed — and that’s intentional

Meals aren’t fast. Conversations aren’t interrupted. This isn’t inefficiency; it’s presence. You’re invited to slow down, not wait.

18. The weather is stable, your mood becomes too

Many visitors notice something unexpected: they feel emotionally steadier here. Sunshine helps — but routine, light, and sea air do their own quiet work.

19. There’s more than beach life

Hiking, villages, wine routes, cultural festivals — Costa Adeje is a starting point, not the whole story.

20. You’ll stop checking the time

Not because you forget responsibilities — but because days stretch naturally. Breakfast blends into lunch. Walks blend into evenings. It feels like time expands.

21. The island teaches patience without lectures

You wait sometimes. For tables, for taxis, for paperwork. And slowly you stop fighting it. That’s the lesson — gentle, not forced.

22. You don’t need a perfect plan

Some of the best days happen when you don’t over-schedule. Costa Adeje rewards space in your agenda.

23. The sunsets become rituals

Not events. Rituals. You’ll notice people stop, look, breathe — together. It’s one of the most human habits on the island.

24. You might rethink what “luxury” means

Here, luxury isn’t excess. It’s light, air, space, time, and calm. Many leave with a quieter definition of success.

25. The island doesn’t try to impress you

It doesn’t shout. It doesn’t perform. It simply exists — confidently. And that’s why it grows on you.

26. You’ll leave with softer expectations of life

Not lower. Softer. More realistic. More kind. Costa Adeje doesn’t promise perfection — it offers balance. And that’s rarer.

Costa Adeje isn’t a fantasy escape. It’s something better: a place that gently resets your rhythm without demanding that you become someone else.

If you come expecting only sunshine and cocktails, you’ll enjoy it.
If you come open to pace, presence, and perspective — you might leave changed.

And that’s the part nobody tells you.

Costa Adeje has a way of making things look effortless.
Sunlight stretches into the evening, the ocean is never far away, and even busy days somehow feel unhurried. It’s easy to arrive with no plan at all — and still have a great time.

But some experiences here go beyond the everyday beach routine. They reveal the island’s scale, its wildlife, its volcanic heart, or simply a quieter rhythm you wouldn’t stumble upon by chance. Choosing one or two of these moments — thoughtfully, without overplanning — can add depth to your stay without taking away its spontaneity.

The experiences below are not about ticking boxes. They’re about seeing Costa Adeje from different angles — land, sea, sky — in ways that are well organized, accessible, and genuinely worth your time.

1. Teide Sunset & Stargazing Experience

Few places in Europe offer a setting as dramatic as Teide National Park at sunset. As the light fades, the volcanic landscape turns from ochre to deep red, while the clouds often settle below you, creating the feeling of standing on an island above the world.

The experience usually begins with a scenic drive through changing landscapes — from coastal palms to pine forests and finally raw volcanic terrain. After sunset, the focus shifts to the night sky. Thanks to Tenerife’s protected skies, stargazing here is exceptionally clear, with guides explaining constellations, planets, and the Milky Way in a way that’s accessible even if you know nothing about astronomy.

Why it’s special:
It combines scenery, silence, and science — without feeling rushed or overly technical.

Best for: couples, slow travelers, first-time visitors
👉 Check availability & prices

2. Whale & Dolphin Watching from Costa Adeje

Costa Adeje is one of the few places in Europe where you can see whales and dolphins year-round, thanks to the deep waters between Tenerife and La Gomera. Tours depart directly from the marina, making this experience surprisingly easy to fit into a relaxed holiday schedule.

Most responsible operators focus on observation rather than chasing sightings, allowing you to watch animals behaving naturally — dolphins riding the waves or pilot whales surfacing calmly near the boat. The experience isn’t about guarantees, but about being out on the Atlantic, feeling the scale of the ocean, and witnessing wildlife in its natural environment.

Why it’s special:
It’s one of the most accessible wildlife experiences in the Canary Islands.

Best for: families, nature lovers, gentle adventure seekers
👉 Check availability & prices

3. Paragliding Over Costa Adeje

Seeing Costa Adeje from above completely changes your perspective. Tandem paragliding flights take off from higher points inland and glide gently toward the coast, offering uninterrupted views of beaches, ravines, and the endless Atlantic.

Despite how dramatic it looks, paragliding here is surprisingly calm. You fly with experienced instructors who handle all the technical aspects, allowing you to simply enjoy the sensation of floating. No previous experience is required — just a willingness to step slightly outside your comfort zone.

Why it’s special:
It’s thrilling without being extreme, and the views are unforgettable.

Best for: solo travelers, couples, anyone craving a unique memory
👉 Check availability & prices

4. Guided Snorkeling Along the Coast

Tenerife’s volcanic coastline hides a surprisingly rich underwater world. Guided snorkeling tours focus on sheltered areas where conditions are calm and visibility is good, making them suitable even for beginners.

With a guide, you’re more likely to spot marine life you’d otherwise miss — colorful fish, sea urchins, and volcanic rock formations shaped by centuries of ocean movement. Equipment is usually included, and the pace is relaxed, making this a pleasant, low-pressure way to explore the sea.

Why it’s special:
It’s accessible, educational, and doesn’t require diving certification.

Best for: beginners, relaxed activity days, curious swimmers
👉 Check availability & prices

5. Kayak & Snorkel Tour Along the Cliffs

Paddling along Tenerife’s volcanic cliffs offers a perspective you simply can’t get from land. These guided kayak tours follow the coastline, passing caves, arches, and quiet coves that feel far removed from busy beaches.

Stops for snorkeling are often included, allowing you to explore clear waters directly beneath the cliffs. The experience balances light physical activity with moments of stillness — floating, listening to the sea, and watching seabirds overhead.

Why it’s special:
It combines movement, nature, and discovery in a very natural way.

Best for: active travelers, small groups, nature lovers
👉 Check availability & prices

6. Mount Teide Cable Car Experience

Mount Teide is Spain’s highest peak and one of Tenerife’s defining landmarks. The cable car allows visitors to reach near the summit without undertaking a demanding hike, opening up panoramic views across the island and beyond.

On clear days, you can see neighboring islands and vast stretches of Atlantic Ocean. The landscape feels otherworldly — barren, silent, and shaped entirely by volcanic forces. Weather conditions can change quickly, which adds an element of unpredictability to the experience.

Why it’s special:
It offers a dramatic natural experience with minimal physical effort.

Best for: photographers, short stays, scenic explorers
👉 Check availability & prices

7. Day Trip to La Gomera from Tenerife

A day trip to La Gomera feels like stepping into a different era of the Canary Islands. The island is greener, quieter, and shaped by deep ravines and ancient forests, including the UNESCO-listed Garajonay National Park.

Guided day trips typically include ferry transport, scenic drives, and time in small villages where traditions remain strong. It’s a full day, but one that offers contrast — especially if you’ve spent most of your holiday along the coast.

Why it’s special:
It shows a completely different side of the Canary Islands.

Best for: repeat visitors, curious travelers, nature enthusiasts
👉 Check availability & prices

You don’t need to fill every day in Costa Adeje to feel like you’ve experienced it.
Sometimes, a single evening above the clouds, a quiet hour on the water, or a view you’ll remember long after you’ve left is enough.

Think of these experiences as anchors — moments that give structure to your trip, while still leaving space for wandering, long lunches, and unplanned discoveries. Whether it’s your first visit or one of many, Costa Adeje rewards those who slow down just enough to notice what makes it special.

Are these experiences suitable if I’m visiting Costa Adeje for the first time?

Yes. Most of them are designed for visitors with no prior experience and are easy to fit into a short stay. You can choose just one and still keep the rest of your holiday flexible.

Do I need to book experiences in advance?

For popular activities — especially Teide sunsets, whale watching, or day trips — booking ahead is recommended, particularly in high season. More spontaneous options like snorkeling or kayaking are often available with shorter notice.

Are these experiences family-friendly?

Several of them are. Whale and dolphin watching, cable car visits, and some snorkeling tours are suitable for families. Always check age and safety requirements before booking.

What if the weather changes?

Outdoor experiences are weather-dependent, especially in the mountains or at sea. Reputable operators usually offer rescheduling or refunds if conditions aren’t suitable.

Can I do these experiences without renting a car?

Yes. Many tours include transport from Costa Adeje or start directly from the area, making them accessible even if you’re relying on walking, taxis, or transfers.

January 6th, known in Spain as Día de Reyes (Three Kings’ Day), is one of the most important public holidays of the year.
While the celebrations themselves take place the night before, many visitors staying in Costa Adeje wonder what daily life looks like on this day — especially when it comes to shops, restaurants, transport, and overall atmosphere.

Here’s what you can realistically expect if you’re in Costa Adeje on January 6th.

January 5th: The Night of the Three Kings in Tenerife

Before Three Kings’ Day itself, the island comes alive on the evening of January 5th, when Their Majesties the Three Kings (Reyes Magos) arrive in towns and cities across Tenerife.

This night is often described by locals as the most magical of the year, especially for children, as the Kings parade through the streets, throwing sweets and greeting families.

While Costa Adeje hosts its own Cabalgata, several towns across the island organize particularly beautiful parades. Depending on where you’re staying — and how busy you want the evening to feel — these are some of the most memorable Cabalgatas in Tenerife.

The Most Beautiful Cabalgatas de Reyes in Tenerife

📍 Adeje

🕖 January 5th | from 7:00 PM
Adeje’s Cabalgata takes place along Calle Grande, offering a warm, community-focused celebration in the historic heart of the town. It’s calm, family-friendly, and ideal for visitors who prefer a relaxed atmosphere without large crowds.

📍 Candelaria

🕕 January 5th | from 6:00 PM
In Candelaria, the Three Kings travel through different areas of the municipality before a formal royal reception at the Town Hall. With its coastal setting and strong local participation, this Cabalgata feels especially traditional and heartfelt.

📍 San Cristóbal de La Laguna

🕡 January 5th | from 6:30 PM
The parade starts on Calle Santo Domingo, continues along Obispo Rey Redondo (La Carrera), Hermanos Marrero, Herradores, and ends on Heraclio Sánchez. La Laguna’s historic streets create a charming backdrop for one of the island’s most atmospheric celebrations.

📍 Garachico

🕡 January 5th | at sunset (around 6:30 PM)
One of the most visually striking Cabalgatas in Tenerife, Garachico’s parade descends from San Pedro de Daute, passes through the historic center, and finishes at Castillo de San Miguel. The setting alone makes it unforgettable.

📍 Santa Cruz de Tenerife

🕖 January 5th | from 7:00 PM
The largest and most spectacular Cabalgata on the island. It begins on Avenida de Bélgica and passes through Avenida de Asuncionistas, Ramón y Cajal, Plaza Militar, Plaza Weyler, Méndez Núñez, El Pilar, Villalba Hervás, ending at Plaza de la Candelaria. Expect big crowds, impressive floats, and a festive city-wide atmosphere.

A Simple Local Tip

Dress warmly, arrive early, and choose the Cabalgata that best matches your pace.
Whether you prefer a small-town celebration or a grand city parade, January 5th is one of the most beautiful nights of the year in Tenerife.

Is January 6th a Public Holiday in Spain?

Yes. January 6th is a national public holiday across Spain.
Most families spend the day together, opening gifts, sharing long lunches, and enjoying a slower rhythm after the festive season.

For visitors, this means a noticeably calmer atmosphere in Costa Adeje.

Supermarkets & Shops

On Three Kings’ Day:

Most shops are closed

Large shopping centres usually remain closed

Small local stores may open briefly in the morning, but this isn’t guaranteed

If you need groceries or essentials, it’s best to shop on January 4th or 5th.

Restaurants & Cafés

Restaurants often operate on a modified schedule:

many open for lunch only

dinner service may be limited or unavailable

hotel restaurants usually operate normally for guests

Booking in advance is recommended, especially for lunch.

Pharmacies

Only on-duty pharmacies (farmacias de guardia) are open on January 6th.
Hotel receptions and local notice boards usually display the nearest available pharmacy for the day.

Beaches, Promenades & Outdoor Spaces

The good news:
Beaches, promenades, and public spaces remain fully accessible.

January 6th is often perfect for:

seaside walks

quiet beach time

enjoying Costa Adeje without crowds

Public Transport

Public transport runs on a reduced holiday schedule:

buses operate less frequently

routes remain active, but with longer waiting times

Plan ahead and allow extra time if you’re moving around the island.

Is the Cabalgata Suitable for Children and Visitors?

Yes — the Cabalgata de Reyes in and around Costa Adeje is generally very family-friendly. The atmosphere is joyful rather than intense, and the pace is relaxed.

Families with very young children may feel more comfortable standing slightly to the side of the main route, where there is more space and less crowding.

Keep Your Personal Belongings Safe

As with any busy public event, it’s wise to stay aware of your personal belongings. Crowds make it easier to lose track of phones, wallets, or bags.

Simple precautions help:

keep backpacks closed and worn on the front in crowded areas

avoid leaving valuables in open pockets

use crossbody bags or small backpacks you can keep close

There’s no need to worry — just stay aware and enjoy the celebration.

What Makes January 6th Special for Visitors?

Three Kings’ Day isn’t about shopping or sightseeing.
It’s about atmosphere.

Costa Adeje feels quieter, more local, and gently festive — a lovely contrast to the busier days of Christmas and New Year.

Sometimes, that softer rhythm is exactly what makes a holiday memorable.

January in Tenerife doesn’t feel like the rest of Spain.
No snow, no chaos — just sunshine, beach walks, and the illusion that rules are optional.

They’re not.

As 2026 begins, a handful of changes do apply immediately in Costa Adeje, others have been officially delayed, and some are still hovering in legal limbo. If you live here, drive here, or run a business here, this is what actually matters.

Driving in Tenerife: the one rule you cannot skip

From 1 January 2026, the connected V16 emergency beacon becomes mandatory across Spain — including all roads in Tenerife.

That means:

🚫 no reflective triangles

🚫 no non-connected V16 devices

✅ only DGT-approved, connected beacons are legal

The change is enforced by the Dirección General de Tráfico and applies everywhere — from the TF-1 motorway to quiet residential streets in Adeje.

Why it matters locally:
Stopping on fast roads like the TF-1 or TF-46 is particularly risky. The beacon lets you stay inside the car while your location is transmitted (only when activated, and anonymised).

If you drive regularly in Tenerife, this is not optional.

Electric scooters in Costa Adeje: what hasn’t started yet

Scooters are everywhere in Adeje — for commuting, short errands, and avoiding parking drama. Naturally, January brought confusion.

Here’s the clarified reality:

Nationwide registration and compulsory insurance for most electric scooters has been delayed

The reason: the national VMP register isn’t ready yet

Until it exists, general enforcement cannot start

This was confirmed by the Dirección General de Tráfico in a late-December update.

⚠️ The local exception you should know

If your scooter or VMP:

weighs more than 25 kg

and can exceed 14 km/h

…then insurance is already required, even without registration.
This transitional rule runs until 26 January 2026.

If you use a heavier scooter to get around Costa Adeje daily, this detail matters more than the headlines.

Living in Tenerife long-term? Retirement rules shift again

For many residents in Adeje — especially long-term expats and mixed-career contributors — 2026 brings two quiet but important pension changes.

A new way pensions can be calculated

From this year, Social Security may calculate your pension using:

the familiar 25-year contribution method, or

an alternative longer contribution period, excluding weaker months

Whichever result is more favourable (under the rules) will apply.
This sits within Spain’s wider pension reform framework.

Retirement age edges up

In 2026:

65 if you’ve contributed 38 years and 3 months

66 years and 10 months if you haven’t

It’s incremental — but relevant if you’re planning residency, income timing, or semi-retirement in Tenerife.

Autónomos & small businesses in Adeje: a pause, not a pardon

If you’re self-employed in Costa Adeje — rental services, consulting, wellness, tourism support — this one matters.

The Verifactu digital invoicing requirement has been postponed until 2027.

Spain’s tax authority, the Agencia Tributaria, confirmed a one-year delay in mandatory compliant invoicing software.

Important nuance:

This is extra preparation time

Not a cancellation

Digital, traceable invoicing is still very much coming

Think of 2026 as a setup year, not a free pass.

Wages & contributions: January is a “watch closely” month

As usual, not everything is locked in on 1 January.

For 2026:

Social Security contribution updates are rolling out

the new minimum wage (SMI) is still being finalised

some figures are tied to early-year announcements

If your household budget or business costs depend on the

SMI, don’t assume stability until the first BOE updates land.

Public Holidays & Major Celebrations in Tenerife

Spain’s national holiday framework for 2026 is already published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado.

Living in Tenerife means following Spain’s national calendar — with a local twist. Alongside nationwide public holidays observed across Spain, the island has its own rhythm shaped by regional celebrations, religious traditions, and one world-famous event that temporarily takes over daily life.

Some dates are quiet and practical, others bring street closures, packed beaches, and full hotels. Knowing which is which helps you plan everything from workdays and appointments to travel, dining, and daily routines in Costa Adeje.

National Public Holidays Observed in Tenerife

Spain’s national holidays apply in Tenerife, although the impact often feels lighter in tourist areas:

1 January – New Year’s Day (Año Nuevo)
A calm, slow day with many businesses closed and limited services.

6 January – Epiphany (Día de los Reyes Magos)
One of Spain’s most important family holidays, marked by parades the evening before and widespread closures.

3 April – Good Friday (Viernes Santo)
A religious public holiday with some processions and reduced office hours, while tourist services usually remain open.

1 May – Labour Day (Día del Trabajador)
Public offices close, demonstrations may take place in larger cities, and coastal areas remain lively.

15 August – Assumption of Mary (Asunción de la Virgen)
A religious holiday often linked to summer fiestas and local events.

12 October – Spain’s National Day (Día de la Hispanidad)
A public holiday with official ceremonies, though everyday life in Tenerife continues at a relaxed pace.

8 December – Immaculate Conception (Inmaculada Concepción)
Often part of a long December holiday period, especially when combined with nearby public days.

25 December – Christmas Day (Navidad)
A quiet, family-focused holiday with limited shop hours and popular beaches.

Key Tenerife & Canary Islands Celebrations

Beyond the national calendar, Tenerife has several dates that shape island life in a very different way:

Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (February–March, dates vary)
One of the largest carnivals in the world. Expect parades, concerts, costumes, and significant road closures. Hotels fill quickly, nightlife intensifies, and planning ahead becomes essential — even in Costa Adeje.

Canary Islands Day – 30 May (Día de Canarias)
Celebrates the autonomy of the Canary Islands with traditional music, folk dress, and cultural events across the island.

Corpus Christi (June, date varies)
Famous for the elaborate flower and sand carpets in La Orotava, drawing visitors from across Tenerife.

Local summer fiestas (August)
Each municipality celebrates its patron saints with concerts, fireworks, and outdoor events, especially lively in coastal areas.

All Saints’ Day – 1 November (Día de Todos los Santos)
A quieter cultural holiday focused on family gatherings and remembrance, with some reduced business hours.

Why This Matters in Costa Adeje

In practice, tourist areas rarely shut down completely, but public offices, banks, and administrative services often do. Major events like Carnival affect transport, availability, and daily routines far more than standard national holidays.

Understanding the calendar helps you:

avoid unexpected closures

plan travel and appointments

enjoy Tenerife’s biggest celebrations without surprises

The Costa Adeje reality checklist for January

If you do nothing else:

✔️ Make sure your car has a connected V16 beacon
✔️ If you use a scooter, check whether the insurance exception applies to you
✔️ If you’re planning long-term life in Tenerife, note the retirement age and calculation changes

2026 in Adeje doesn’t arrive with drama.
It arrives with precise rules, delayed enforcement, and updates that only become annoying if you miss them.

Handle what’s mandatory on day one.
Then enjoy the sunshine — and keep an eye on January BOE updates like everyone else who’s lived here long enough to know how this works.

The post What Changes in Tenerife in 2026 (and What You Can Safely Ignore for Now) first appeared on Adeje.com.

Because culture makes the best long-lasting souvenir 🎭✨

When people think of Adeje, they often picture beaches, sunshine, and slow afternoons by the sea. What’s less talked about — but just as valuable — is its cultural life.

From theatre and live music to traditional celebrations and community events, Adeje offers plenty of opportunities to gift something more meaningful than an object: an evening out, a shared experience, a memory.

This guide is for:

visitors spending Christmas or winter in Adeje

residents looking for thoughtful gift ideas

anyone who prefers culture over clutter

Here are 10 cultural events and experiences in Adeje where gifting tickets (or planning attendance) makes real sense.

1. Performances at Auditorio de Adeje

The Auditorio de Adeje is the cultural heart of the municipality. Throughout the year — and especially in winter — it hosts:

theatre productions

concerts

dance performances

family-friendly shows

🎟️ Why it works as a gift:
Tickets are affordable, events are well curated, and the venue is easy to access. A perfect cultural evening without the stress.

2. Christmas Concerts & Seasonal Performances

December in Adeje often includes:

Christmas concerts

choir performances

seasonal music events

community celebrations

These are usually held at:

the Auditorio

local cultural centres

public squares

🎟️ Gift idea:
Tickets or simply a planned evening around one of these events, paired with dinner or a walk afterward.

3. Traditional Canarian Celebrations (Fiestas)

Canarian culture is deeply tied to local fiestas. While dates vary, winter often brings:

traditional music

folk dance

local costumes

community gatherings

🎟️ Why it’s a great gift:
You’re gifting authentic culture, not something staged for tourists.

4. Theatre & Contemporary Shows

Adeje regularly hosts:

modern theatre

comedy

touring productions

Often in Spanish, sometimes with international performers, these shows offer a more contemporary cultural angle.

🎟️ Gift idea:
Tickets + a simple explanation of the show. Thoughtful and intentional.

5. Dance & Performing Arts Events

Dance performances — from classical to modern — appear frequently in Adeje’s cultural programme.

These events are:

visually engaging

accessible even without language fluency

ideal for a relaxed cultural night

🎟️ Why gift it:
Dance transcends language and feels special without being intimidating.

6. Cultural Events in Public Spaces

During festive periods, Adeje often hosts:

open-air performances

cultural displays

small concerts

Held in:

plazas

promenades

public venues

🎟️ Gift idea:
Plan the evening rather than the ticket. Sometimes the experience itself is free — the thought is what counts.

7. Local Exhibitions & Cultural Displays

While Adeje isn’t known for large museums, it frequently hosts:

temporary exhibitions

cultural showcases

community art projects

🎟️ Why it works:
These events are intimate, local, and often overlooked — which makes them even more special.

8. Religious & Traditional Christmas Events

Christmas in the Canary Islands includes:

traditional nativity scenes (belenes)

religious services

community gatherings

🎟️ Gift idea:
Not a ticket, but a shared visit. Cultural, meaningful, and deeply rooted in local tradition.

9. Cultural Events for Families

Adeje places strong emphasis on family-friendly culture, especially during holidays:

children’s shows

storytelling

festive workshops

🎟️ Why gift it:
It’s a shared family experience — something everyone remembers.

10. A Planned Cultural Evening in Adeje

Sometimes the best gift isn’t a specific event — it’s the plan:

performance or concert

dinner before or after

a walk through town

🎟️ How to gift it:
Write it down. A simple plan turns a night out into a real present.

Cultural gifts work because:

they don’t take up space

they create memories

they connect people

In Adeje, culture is relaxed, welcoming, and accessible — making it ideal for gifting.

Because memories travel lighter than souvenirs 🌴✨

If you’ve ever tried to wrap an experience, you already know the problem:
no box is big enough, no ribbon does it justice, and yet… it’s almost always the best gift.

In Adeje, gifting experiences makes even more sense. This is a place where:

the weather invites you outside

time slows down naturally

moments matter more than objects

So instead of another “thing”, why not offer a moment, a plan, a shared memory?

This guide is for:

If you’re in Adeje in December and wondering “Is anything actually happening right now?” — the answer is a warm, confident yes.

Christmas in Adeje isn’t about one single big event. It’s about many small, well-curated moments: markets, concerts, family activities, cultural performances, and festive gatherings that gently fill your calendar without overwhelming it.

This guide focuses on what’s happening right now and over the next two weeks in Adeje, so you can plan your evenings, weekends, and spontaneous strolls like a local — not like someone frantically Googling “things to do near me”.

Let’s dive in.

1. Adeje Christmas Market: The Heart of the Festive Season

If there’s one place where Christmas truly feels like Christmas in Adeje, it’s the local Christmas market.

Held in central areas of Adeje, this market brings together:

Local artisans

Handmade crafts

Festive food stalls

Christmas lights and music

Activities for children

This is not a tourist trap. It’s a community-focused event, designed for families, neighbours, and visitors who want a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

Why it’s worth visiting:

You’ll find local products, not mass-produced souvenirs

The vibe is social, not rushed

It’s perfect for an early evening walk

📍 Best time to go: early evening, just as the lights come on
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Great for: families, couples, slow travelers

2. Blue Market Adeje: Christmas Edition

The Blue Market Costa Adeje is already a local favourite — and its December editions are especially festive.

This market focuses on:

Creative entrepreneurs

Designers

Illustrators

Handmade fashion and decor

Sustainable brands

In December, the Blue Market leans into the Christmas mood with:

Seasonal designs

Festive music

A relaxed, stylish crowd

It’s the kind of place where you:

Come for “just a look”

Stay for an hour

Leave with a gift you didn’t plan to buy (but love)

🛍️ Perfect for: unique Christmas gifts
☕ Bonus: food trucks and drinks nearby

3. Christmas Concerts & Live Music in Adeje

December in Adeje means live music, often free, and often outdoors.

Over the next two weeks, expect:

These concerts usually take place at:

Local cultural centres

They’re informal, welcoming, and very family-friendly.

🎼 Insider tip: Don’t expect strict start times. Do expect good vibes.

4. Cultural Performances at Auditorio de Adeje

The Auditorio de Adeje plays a key role in the Christmas cultural programme.

During December, it typically hosts:

Affordable or free

Well organised

Designed for locals and visitors alike

🎟️ This is also one of the best places to gift tickets for a cultural experience in Adeje.

5. Family & Children’s Christmas Activities

Adeje takes Christmas for children very seriously — in the best way.

Over the next two weeks, you’ll find:

Workshops and creative activities

Children’s shows

Christmas-themed games

Storytelling sessions

Many of these take place in:

Cultural centres

Town squares

Community spaces

These activities are usually:

Free

Supervised

Designed for different age groups

If you’re travelling with kids — or live here — this part of the Christmas programme is gold.

6. Nativity Scenes (Belenes) Around Adeje

What are belenes?
In Spain and the Canary Islands, belenes are traditional nativity scenes displayed during the Christmas season. They depict the birth of Jesus, often expanded into detailed miniature landscapes with villages, shepherds, animals, and local elements. In places like Adeje, belenes can be found in churches, public buildings, and cultural centres, and they are considered an important part of Christmas heritage. Some are simple and symbolic, while others are impressively elaborate and worth a dedicated visit.

You’ll notice nativity scenes popping up across Adeje in December.

These belenes can be found:

In public buildings

In churches

In cultural centres

Some are small and traditional. Others are surprisingly elaborate, with landscapes, villages, and local references.

Even if you’re not religious, they’re part of the cultural fabric of Christmas here — and worth a quiet visit.

7. Festive Dining & Christmas Menus

While Adeje doesn’t revolve around formal Christmas dinners in restaurants, many local places offer:

Special seasonal menus

Christmas Eve or Christmas Day options

Festive touches to regular menus

Expect:

Fresh seafood

Local meats

Canarian potatoes

Seasonal desserts

📍 Tip: Reservations are a good idea, especially closer to Christmas Eve.

8. Evening Walks, Lights & Festive Streets

One of the simplest — and best — Christmas activities in Adeje costs exactly zero euros.

Just walk.

During December:

Streets are decorated

Squares are lit up

The atmosphere is calm and social

Locals stroll, kids play, couples chat, and Christmas happens quietly in the background.

Sometimes, the best plan is no plan at all.

9. Christmas Shopping with a Local Twist

Beyond markets, December is a great time to explore:

Local shops

Artisan stores

Small boutiques

Instead of rushing through shopping centres, take your time discovering locally made gifts that actually mean something.

10. Looking Ahead: Preparing for Three Kings’ Day

While technically just outside the next two weeks, Three Kings’ Day (January 6th) shapes everything happening now.

You’ll notice:

Decorations referencing the Three Kings

Children talking excitedly

Events building toward the big parade

If you’re staying longer, this is the celebration to keep on your radar.

How to Enjoy These Events Like a Local

✔ Don’t rush
✔ Go out in the evening
✔ Talk to people
✔ Eat slowly
✔ Accept that schedules are flexible

Christmas in Adeje is meant to be experienced, not ticked off a list.

Final Thoughts

The next two weeks in Adeje are filled with:

Small joys

Community events

Festive moments

Warm evenings and warm people

You don’t need a packed itinerary — just curiosity and comfortable shoes.

This December long weekend, Costa Adeje is unwrapping a brand-new festive treat — the first-ever Blue Market, popping up at Plaza de Salytien on 5, 6 and 7 December, from 17:00 to 23:00. Think of it as a stylish, modern twist on the classic market… but with more personality, more talent, and a very Canarian sense of flair.

This particular weekend is a festive one across Spain thanks to Constitution Day on 6 December, a national holiday marking the anniversary of Spain’s 1978 Constitution—the moment the country stepped confidently into modern democracy. Schools close, families travel, and cities come alive with cultural activities. Here in the Canary Islands, it often feels more like a warm, sunny excuse to enjoy good food, beach walks and pre-Christmas spirit. Launching Blue Market during this holiday is no coincidence: people are already relaxed, cheerful, and in exactly the right mood to browse, taste and discover something unique.

Picture this: warm evening lights, sea breeze, and over thirty creators from across Tenerife bringing their most original pieces to the heart of Costa Adeje. Yes, it’s basically Pinterest, but in real life.

What’s the idea behind Blue Market?

According to Patricia Paulsen Fölling, Councillor for Tourism in Adeje, the Blue Market was created to champion “close-to-home commerce” and celebrate products made with identity, tradition and creativity.

In other words:
Buy local, support talent, feel good, repeat.

And she’s right — Costa Adeje is already known for its climate, scenery, sports, gastronomy and beautiful hotels. A curated local market like this simply rounds out the picture, giving visitors something genuinely unique to discover (and possibly take home in their suitcase).

What will you find there?

For three evenings, the plaza transforms into an open, free-to-enter creative hub filled with:

🌿 Handcrafted pieces

👗 Fashion by local designers

🍯 Gastro goodies made in Tenerife

🎁 Artisanal treasures begging to be gifted — even if it’s to yourself

Everything showcased has been imagined, sketched, crafted or cooked right here on the island. The goal? To highlight Tenerife’s small businesses and encourage a more conscious, local-friendly way of consuming.

Why is everyone talking about it?

Project director Cristina Hernández — also known for Le Good Market — explains that Tenerife is experiencing a real boom in small creative brands. Social media has helped them grow, but real-world events like Blue Market give them visibility, credibility, and community.

And let’s be honest: nothing beats discovering a handmade product directly from the person who created it. Bonus points if they tell you the story behind it while you’re munching on something delicious.

A new festive tradition in the making

The Blue Market is set to slide comfortably into Costa Adeje’s pre-Christmas calendar, becoming that yearly event residents and tourists look forward to — the one where you can stroll with friends, shop something original, listen to live music and pretend you’re in a very sunny version of a Christmas movie.

Expect:
🎶 Live music
🌊 Coastal, nautical vibes
✨ A relaxed evening atmosphere perfect for families, couples, and friendly mischief-makers

So if you’re around Costa Adeje during the Constitution long weekend, follow the lights to Plaza de Salytien. Your future favourite handmade accessory (or snack… probably snack) is waiting for you.
