Later, the tradition was blended with the feast day of Saint John the Baptist, a Christian figure associated with water and renewal. That’s how it became La Noche de San Juan — but at its heart, it’s still a night of letting go, starting fresh, and connecting with nature.

Today, in Spain — and especially in the Canary Islands — the festival is celebrated with bonfires on the beach, fireworks, music, and midnight swims. People gather with friends and strangers to burn their regrets, make wishes, and dive into the ocean under the moonlight.
